The thick smoke from forest fires often obscures the true narrative of what’s unfolding. This project serves as a concerted effort to cut through the haze and bring to light the stories and community initiatives responding to the crisis at hand.
The Anthropology Study Unit, Institute for Social and Political Research and Development, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Indonesia is currently conducting a study titled “Fire Play: Documenting and Understanding Indigenous Fire Governance.”
This research focuses on understanding and documenting decentralized fire governance in Indonesia.
By applying interdisciplinary methods, this study aims to both understand and document the participation of local communities, who were previously often considered the cause of fires, in their roles as the frontline of forest and land fire mitigation efforts.
